Delete Your Account and Data

In short: you can delete your entire Bao account from inside the app, in Profile → Delete Account. You can also delete individual pets, moments, journal entries, objectives and events without deleting your account. If you cannot use the app, you can delete your account from this page instead — we email you a confirmation link and the deletion happens as soon as you open it.

1. Delete your account and all data

You can do this yourself, in the app, without contacting us:

Open the Bao app and make sure you are signed in.
Tap the Profile tab (the person icon in the bottom navigation bar).
Scroll to the Account section and tap Delete Account.
Read the confirmation dialog and tap Delete.

Your device needs an internet connection for this, because the deletion happens on our servers, not just on your phone. If you are offline, the app will tell you and nothing will be deleted.

This is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period and no way to undo it or recover the data afterwards. If you want to keep a copy of anything — a photo, a note — save it out of the app first.

Once deletion completes, you are signed out and the copy of your data stored on that device is erased as well.

2. Delete some data, keep your account

You do not have to delete your account to delete data. Anything you have recorded in Bao can be removed individually, from inside the app, while your account stays active:

A pet — open the pet, then use the menu on the pet's page (or the pet's edit screen) and choose Delete pet. This also removes everything logged for that pet: its photos, moments, objectives, journal entries and calendar events.
A moment (a timeline entry with its photo, note and optional location) — open it and choose Delete.
A journal entry (a feeding, walk, medication, vet visit, weight, and so on) — open it from the timeline and choose Delete.
An objective (a recurring care routine) and its check-in history — open it and choose Delete.
A calendar event and its reminder — open it and choose Delete.
A photo — remove or replace it from the pet's profile or from the moment it belongs to.

Deletions you make in the app are synced to our servers and applied to your other devices the next time they connect.

3. Delete your account from this page

If you cannot use the in-app option — you uninstalled the app, or you are on a computer — you can delete your account here instead. It works the same way, and needs no help from us:

Enter the email address of your Bao account below.
We email you a confirmation link. This is what proves the account is yours — it is the reason nobody can delete an account just by typing in someone else's address.
Open that link and confirm. Your account is deleted immediately.

The link signs you in for the sole purpose of confirming the deletion, and expires after a short time. If you do not open it, nothing happens and your account stays exactly as it is.

Prefer to write to a person? Email bao.pets.app@gmail.com from your account's address, telling us whether you want the whole account deleted or only specific pets or entries. We may need to take additional steps to verify the account is yours. We respond within 30 days, and usually much sooner.

4. What gets deleted

Deleting your account removes the following from our servers:

Photos are the one item that is not erased in the same instant: the records that point at them are deleted immediately, and a scheduled job then removes the unreferenced image files themselves. That job runs daily, so a photo is gone from our storage within 48 hours of the account deletion at the latest.

5. What is kept, and for how long

We do not keep your personal or pet data after deletion. Two narrow exceptions apply:

Purchase and subscription records. If you bought a Bao subscription, the record of that transaction is retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep it, and by Apple, Google and our subscription provider under their own terms. This is a legal obligation we cannot waive on request. It does not include any of your pet data.
Routine backups. Copies of the database may briefly persist in our hosting provider's automated, encrypted backups until those backups roll off on their normal rotation schedule. They are not accessible to the app and are never restored to re-create a deleted account.

Beyond those, nothing is retained: there is no grace period, no archive, and no anonymized copy of your data kept for other purposes.

6. Signing out is not deletion

Signing out ends your session and clears the copy of your data stored on that device, but it does not delete your account or anything on our servers. Sign back in and everything returns as it was. Use Delete Account if you want the data actually gone.

Uninstalling the app has the same limitation: it removes the app and its local data from your phone, and leaves your account on our servers untouched.
